Sources close to Guardiola say ‘no chance’ he leaves before 2021 – future beyond is undecided

The Telegraph has insisted that sources close to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola have emphatically affirmed that there is ‘no chance‘ that the Catalan fails to fulfil his present contract with the club that runs until 2021.

Guardiola is said to still be ‘happy‘ in Manchester in spite of the club’s difficulties this season on the field, and is already making plans for the squad’s development in the summer.

However, while any fears that Pep may leave before his contract runs out in 2021 appear to be unfounded, his future beyond that date remains uncertain.

The Telegraph claim that Pep will not make a decision soon and will instead wait and see whether or not ‘the club and the players have the same belief in him before he further commits his future‘. Guardiola’s intense style is known to carry the risk of wearing out himself and his players over time.

As for transfer plans in the summer, the Telegraph add that Pep retains his faith in John Stones, following reports linking the defender with a move to Arsenal.

Furthermore, it is also alleged that there are no drastic plans to overhaul the squad. Phil Foden’s development and Riyad Mahrez’s improvement are both cited as factors mitigating against the need for a hectic transfer window.
