Pep Guardiola wants Serie A star to replace Sergio Aguero – Barcelona also interested

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola want to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez as a replacement for Sergio Agüero, according to Sky Sport in Italy, as relayed by the Daily Mail.

31-year-old Sergio Agüero is coming to the end of his time at the Etihad Stadium, and club bosses have identified Martinez as the perfect replacement for City’s undisputed best ever forward.

At 22, Martinez will soon be the same age as Agüero was when he made the move to England in 2011, and comes from a similar background. He first established himself at a top Argentina’s Racing Club before making the leap to European giants Inter, and is now scoring goals both domestically and in the Champions League.

The striker has scored 13 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants so far this season, and has been a crucial part in their fight to beat Borussia Dortmund to a Champions League knockout round place.

Barcelona are another club said to be highly interested in Martinez, but he won’t come cheaply with Antonio Conte said to be ‘desperate‘ to keep his main man at the San Siro.
