Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is one of four Algerians nominated for the 2019 CAF Player of the Year, according to an exclusive report from DZ Football.
Following an African Cup of Nations victory last summer, Algeria are deservedly well represented within the nominees. The Manchester City winger joins fellow countrymen Youcef Belaili, Baghdad Bounedjah, and Ismael Bennacer as nominees for the CAF’s annual award.
Mahrez previously won the award back in 2016, when he was a vital piece of Leicester City’s infamous Premier league winning side. Since then, Liverpool and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah has taken home the award in consecutive campaigns (2017 and 2018).
For Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Community Shield with Pep Guardiola’s side in 2019. In addition, Mahrez captained Algeria to African Cup of Nations glory back in July.
Considering the success the Algerian has had with both club and country in 2019, Mahrez is sure to be one of the favourites for this year’s edition of the award.
