Going In For The Kyl – The Transfer Round-Up (22/07/19)

With three weeks to go in the summer market it appears that most of City’s business is done and dusted, another slow day on the transfer front with a lot of repeat names featured. Fresh reports around Mbappe to City and Laporte has his say on the centre back situation. But more importantly, is the Sané saga finally over?

Going in for the Kyl…

French publication El Pais have reported today that City are tabling a serious offer for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe. The 2018 World Cup winner has stated in the past that he would love the opportunity of working with City manager Pep Guardiola.

El Pais go on to say that PSG are chalking up an offer of a new and improved contract for Mbappe of £850,000 a week which would make him the second biggest earner in world football, however this would hinge on whether Neymar joins Barcelona to free up the funds for the offer.

Guardiola is said to be keeping tabs on Mbappe and feels that the attacker would be a ‘perfect fit’ for City’s style of play. It wasn’t long ago that the player (when awarded the Ligue 1 player of the year) mentioned that his ‘future may lie somewhere else’

No return ‘home’ for Nico…

Multiple Spanish publications today including Super Deporte and ELDesmarque have reported that Valencia are set to give up on their chase of Nicolas Otamendi.

It is said that financial reasons were unfeasible for Valenica due to Otamendi’s wage demands. Valencia have three options at centre back and have stated that they will only go in to the market should one of them leave the club.

Recently, Otamendi has stated his desire to return to Valencia and that it’s a place that he still calls ‘home

Sarri but Cancelo may not be going anywhere…

Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is said to be impressed by João Cancelo’s recent performance against Tottenham Hotspur in their recent pre-season friendly and ‘questions have now opened’ on whether the Italian champions are wanting him to move on.

According to Massimo Pavan of Tutto Juve he does suggest however that Juventus could still be tempted by an offer of £60 million. Recent performances may prompt suitors such as City, Bayern or Barcelona to secure his services sooner rather than later.

Plan B for Bayern as they chase Eagles winger..

Yesterday it was reported that City had rejected a cash plus player (David Alaba) offer from Bayern Munich for Leroy Sané according to Mundo Deportivo and the Daily Mirror.

90min.com have now suggested that Bayern are giving up on the City winger and have identified Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha as an alternative to Sané.

It is widely expected that Zaha may move away from Selhurst Park with Arsenal and now Bayern both interested in the player both of whom can offer him the prospect of European football. Palace have set a £80 million valuation for the player and even though it’s not likely that Bayern are likely to match the valuation it’s expected they would be able to offer more than Arsenal’s recent £40 million bid.

Additionally the Daily Mirror this afternoon have reported that an unnamed senior source at City has said:

‘We are not in negotiations with Bayern over Sané. In fact we are talking to him about a new contract and we will not be looking to sell’

Laporte has his say on defensive reinforcements

A prominent feature of the transfer rumours throughout the summer has been as to who we are going to be bringing in at centre back to replace Vincent Kompany.

Aymeric Laporte has spoke on the matter and said the following in relation to the matter:

‘It is possible that Fernandinho can play there. He is a very good player and I think he can play wherever he wants so yeah he can play at centre back too’ going on to say ‘I really don’t know if they need to someone else. Ask Pep what he wants, I think the three (himself, Otamendi and Stones) we are all putting ourselves forward to play every game but we don’t decide, the club decides for us’ finally saying ‘I am here to be a regular starter, so yeah hopefully it can be the same this year and I’m going to work for that’

Very ‘Sporting’ of you..

Thiago Almada, dubbed the ‘next Messi’ is closing in on a move to City any day now according to Manchester Evening News. This is despite a report from Diario Record Portugal suggesting that Boca Juniors are interested in signing the player – Velez Sarsfield are said to be not keen on selling to their immediate league rivals.

According to Correio de Manha, Augustin Jimenez (Almada’s agent) is flying back from Manchester to Argentina with a new offer for the player which is expected to be closer to £16 million after the initial £12 million offer was rejected. Almada however would not join up with Pep and the City squad straight away, the player is expected to go out on loan to Sporting for the season.

Last week Sporting president Frederico Varandas was in Manchester to tie up the loose ends of a partnership between the two clubs. This has already seen City secure Felix Correira at a cut price deal, and will see Almada gain valuable experience in the Portuguese top flight.

Almada made his debut for current club Velez Sarsfield at 17 and at the same age was called up to the Argentina U20 squad.

City join race for ‘Brazil’s next top talent’..

Reinier Jesus who is regarded in his homeland as one of the hottest prospects will not be allowed to leave until January 2020 when the player turns 18.

Everton, AC Milan and Dortmund have already enquired about securing his services however his potential and talent means Europe’s top clubs are now entering the race for his signature.
