Manchester City have received ‘several‘ offers for promising teenage centre-back, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, according to the latest claims from England.
The Stockport-born defender recently signed a long-term contract with the Etihad club, committing his future to the side for the foreseeable future. However, that has not removed uncertainty surrounding his immediate future, with some clubs still believing in the possibility of signing the player on a loan-deal.
According to Sam Lee of the Athletic, Manchester City have received ‘several’ offers for the 18-year-old. However, following discussions between academy and first-team staff at the club, it has been decided that the best course of action would be to reject such offers for now in the event that Harwood-Bellis is needed to step in.
A similar stance was taken in the summer transfer window of 2020, when John Stones was retained despite the club being open to letting the former Everton defender leave. Ultimately, the decision has proved to be one of great fortune, however it initially came about due to the possibility of Eric Garcia joining Barcelona.
Harwood-Bellis does appear to be facing a battle in the centre-back department at the Etihad Stadium. The formidable partnership of Ruben Dias and John Stones has meant that Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake now stand as third and fourth choice in that position.
Subsequently, it appears to be a three-way battle for the final centre-back spots in the first-team between Luke Mbete, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, and Eric Garcia – however the latter seems set to finally complete a move to Barcelona upon the expiry of his contract in June.
