In order to secure Skriniar’s signature, City are said to be willing to even include Joao Cancelo in any deal. Cancelo spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Inter, where his performances prompted Juventus to sign the Portugal full-back for €40m.
Although Inter may well be open to Cancelo’s return, they ‘do not seem interested’ in entertaining the idea of Skriniar’s departure. The Slovakian international signed a new deal until 2023 only last year.
City have had a strong interest in Skriniar in the Italian media since he signed for Inter from Sampdoria in 2017, along with other leading European clubs including Barcelona.
Skriniar’s skillset is well-suited to playing in a Pep Guardiola side; strong, athletic and composed in possession. If he were to sign for City, he could form an imposing partnership with Aymeric Laporte.
Any deal that would see Inter sanction Skriniar’s departure would undoubtedly see City break the club’s transfer record, which presently stands at £62.8m for the signing of Rodri from Atletico Madrid.
