We’re just over halfway through the January transfer window now with little business done by Manchester City so far. Today brought us further news on a couple of potential departures, with a new face to added to the list of potential incomers.
Here’s a round-up on today’s activity…
Sané to stay after all?
With so much talk of Bayern Munich being in pole position to snap up Manchester City winger Leroy Sané in either this transfer window or the next, it has begun to seem unlikely that the German’s future is in blue. Not according to Sean Kearns of the Metro though, who claims that City haven’t yet given up on being able to convince Sané to sign a new contract.
The 23-year-old reportadly feels grateful to the club for their handling of the Bayern situation, and for not giving up on the prospect of tying him down to a new deal throughout his recovery from injury. Another factor that may block a deal is the quality of the Bundesliga champion’s current squad. Although Sané would enjoy being the main man in Bavaria, he also wants assurances that the club will recruit the right personnel to be in a position to challenge for major honours such as the Champions League.
Later, reports from Christian Falk say that the story in the Metro is completely false and Sané has given his promise to Bayern Munich that he will join the club in the summer.
Just as one stays, another goes…
Leroy Sané may not be the only Manchester City forward who is seeking a move away. The situation regarding Ian Carlo Poveda has escalated; with the youngster “very interested” in moving to Italian side Torino, according to Tuttosport.
The Turin side aren’t the only ones in the race though, with City having contacted Celtic to offer them Poveda (albeit implying that a low buyback fee would be inserted into his contract), as well as Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa having personally phoned the 19-year-old to try to convince him to join the Championship promotion chasers. City are not believed to be interested in keeping Poveda, hence them offering him to Celtic and potentially other “friendly destinations”.
“The New Pirlo”
When you’re compared with a great of the game such as Andrea Pirlo at the age of just 19, you know you must be doing something right. Those comparisons have come the way of Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has a host of top European clubs chasing his signature according to SportItalia’s Alfredo Pedulla.
City will reportedly have to compete with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan, PSG and current favourites Juventus to complete the signing.
Another attacker on the way out?
Bundesliga club RB Leipzig are reportedly interested in signing a bright young Manchester City attacker Jayden Braaf. The youngster is seen as the new star of City’s academy and at only 17 years old, has caught the attention of a number of Bundesliga clubs, according to Jack Gaughan. Table toppers RB Leipzig reportedly “made checks” on the winger during last night’s FA Youth Cup win, with Braaf having expressed frustration on social media at not having his chance in the first team yet earlier in the season.
