Manchester City’s transfer window rumour mill spins on, with today’s round-up including links to a Barcelona star as well as a young defender. There’s also reports of a current City legend agreeing to a move away from the club at the end of the season.
Here’s a complete round-up of the Sunday’s events…
The central defensive rumour mill goes on
Our first report comes from Saturday night, when Manchester City were linked with a move for Carlisle United’s 17-year-old centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, and not for the first time in recent weeks. The youngster has played in five League Two games this season, but will cost around £800,000 – with Liverpool, Chelsea, Watford and Leicester City all reportedly interested. Bundesliga outfit Red Bull Leipzig are also keen on Branthwaite.
City may be looking for a long-term addition to their squad as Nicolas Otamendi ages and continues to struggle with form, although Branthwaite remains a future prospect as opposed to an immediate solution in a position where Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are thriving on a youth front.
El Mago to Miami
Next, we look at the departure of a club legend. As we know, David Silva will move on at the end of the season – and recently published articles suggest he’s in contact with MLS side Inter Miami. This report claims he has a ‘verbal agreement‘ with the club and that negotiations between player and club have already started.
Silva has confirmed that he will leave England in the Summer, but it’s still of great interest to many fans to learn where he’ll be heading next.
We also have reports at a board level, with the famous Sevilla director of footballer ‘Monchi’ suggested as an addition to Manchester City’s boardroom staff. According to Spanish newspaper AS, Barcelona and Manchester City would ‘love‘ to hire the Spaniard, who has been widely praised for his work at the club.
However, it seems he’s very committed to Sevilla and doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon!
Today has also seen an intriguing link with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman hasn’t gotten as much playing time as he may have liked at the Catalan club and they are allegedly open to selling him on.
Manchester City are one of the clubs interested in the young prospect, but they could face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus. If Dembélé was to join Manchester City, it would likely be as a replacement for Leroy Sané, who continues to be linked to Bayern.
£70 million or bust
If Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé isn’t available, Manchester City could turn to Wolves forward Adama Traoré. The Spaniard has registered three goals in two appearances against Pep Guardiola’s side this season, but it’s been reported that Wolves will only listen to offers worth £70 million or more – a sum Manchester City are unlikely to spend on an inconsistent player, when Dembélé may be an option for not much more. Nonetheless, 90min say that the Citizens have told Wolves to ‘keep them updated‘ on Traoré’s situation.
Note the source with this one, it’s rather unlikely that we could see any more progression in the situation.
