Man City ‘show interest’ in Premier League defender – clause puts rivals in ‘pole position’

Manchester City have ‘shown interest‘ in making a January move for Bournemouth central defender Nathan Aké, according to Sky Sports News.

It has been no secret that Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled in the defensive department so far this season, with injuries hampering a number of key players across the campaign – most notably Aymeric Laporte, who sustained serious ligament damage back in August.

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester City are actively pursuing a central defender in the January transfer window, specifically Bournemouth’s Nathan Aké. However, a contract clause placed in the 24-year-old’s deal when making the move from Chelsea in August 2017, seems to have put Frank Lampard’s side in pole position to bring the Netherlands international back to Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City have already been linked with a number of possible central defensive recruits ahead of the January market opening next week, with Benfica’s Ruben Dias and Villarreal’s Pau Torres both linked with making a switch to the Etihad Stadium.

However, following City’s defeat to Wolves in the Premier League on Friday night, Pep Guardiola categorically ruled out the possibility of the Champions making a move for any player in the winter market.
