Manchester City officials are looking to ensure their dominance within the English game does not come to an end any time soon, with key decision makers scrutinising several major aspects of the club, according to Dean Jones of Bleacher Report.
From some corners of Manchester City’s fanbase, the current squad and in particular Pep Guardiola, have come under heavy scrutiny following a string of inconsistent performances that have lead to the blues falling 14 points behind league leaders Liverpool in the chase for the Premier League title.
To some extent, those concerns are shared with the hierarchy at the club, with Txiki Begiristain (Director of Football) and Ferran Soriano (Chief Executive Officer) looking into ways that the club can maintain their recent dominance in the English game, according to Bleacher Report. The report suggests that it isn’t just the recruitment of players that is under the spotlight at the Etihad, but in fact ‘everything is under scrutiny‘.
The future of Pep Guardiola is raised in the same article, with an insight provided by an unnamed club insider. Said insider claims that “…there is nothing wrong with what he [Pep Guardiola] is saying. But it just might not be having quite the same affect on some players that it once did.”
Should Pep Guardiola move on from the Etihad Stadium at the end of the current campaign, many have suggested and assumed that Mikel Arteta would be the obvious replacement. That is of course assuming that he doesn’t take up an opportunity at either Arsenal or Everton, with both clubs reportedly monitoring the Spaniard as a possible successor to their recently departed head coaches.
Bleacher Report suggest that although Mikel Arteta is so close to the current group of players, this ‘does not make him the best candidate to take over from Guardiola‘.
