Pep Guardiola makes five changes to the side that take on Newcastle United at St James Park this afternoon. City looking to leapfrog Leicester into second and close the gap on league leaders Liverpool. Manchester City lost in the same fixture last season, where a 2-1 loss seemingly put the Blues out of the title race, and they will be hoping for a better result this time around.
As usual, Ederson starts in goal. Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy come in for Joao Cancelo and Angelino at fullbacks with Pep opting for the more physical pairing to deal with the threat Newcastle possesses. John Stones returns to the side for Nicolas Otamendi and he is paired with the ever present Fernandinho.
In midfield, Gundogan retains his pivot role with him looking to find the brilliant form he was in at the start of the season. Kevin De Bruyne will look to use some of his magic in the number eight against a stubborn Newcastle defence. Alongside the Belgian, David Silva returns to the side in place of Rodri.
In the front line, Raheem Sterling keeps his usual spot on the left and Gabriel Jesus remains up top. The only change in this area is Riyad Mahrez coming into the side to replace Bernardo Silva.
