Sergio Aguero is reportedly free to leave Manchester City from next summer, and the club have already started looking for their next star striker if Gabriel Jesus doesn’t prove to be the most suitable successor.
One of the players being monitored is Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez, who’s made an impressive start to the season under Antonio Conte. The Argentina international has eight goals in sixteen appearances this campaign.
The twist in the tale is that rivals Manchester United are also said to be intrigued by the young forward. They’re in the market for a new striker after loaning and selling Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, as well as the growing feeling that Marcus Rashford is better suited to a future on the wing.
Martínez won’t come cheap to either Manchester club, with a release clause of €111m – but Inter Milan plan to offer their player an extension which will tempt him to stay with a salary raise, as well as upping the release fee.
Four ‘European giants‘ are reportedly interested in Martínez, with the other two being Real Madrid and Barcelona – where compatriot Lionel Messi has supposedly given the player a glowing recommendation. Calciomercato also mentions that the Catalan club may even propose French winger Ousmané Dembélé in a swap deal.
