Manchester City ‘could’ sign Benfica central defender Ruben Dias in the January transfer window, but not without competition from the Premier League in the form of Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to O Jogo as relayed by Sport Witness.

In recent months, Manchester City have been linked with the 22-year-old, who has become one of the most sought-after central defenders in world football, for a multitude of reasons.
Following the defensive crisis that has hampered City’s Premier League title challenge so far this season, it comes as no surprise to see Pep Guardiola’s side linked with multiple names in this position. The latest claim suggests Manchester City could sign Ruben Dias in the January transfer window.
The report suggests that City’s pursuit of the Portugal international will not come without competition, with both Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘equal in the race‘ for the defender. Dias is currently tied to Benfica with a €66 million release clause.

And on the topic of that release clause, according to A Bola as relayed by Sport Witness in the same report, Benfica are working on increasing Ruben Dias’ clause to protect him from the significant English interest from Premier League clubs.
Manchester City have struggled with injury problems in defence this campaign, most notably in the centre of defence. Aymeric Laporte’s long-term injury sustained at the end of August, combined with injuries to other members of the squad, has forced Pep Guardiola into playing midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri in the centre of the back-four at different times this campaign.
