According to Cutts, an unnamed source within the club stated that “while Mikel loves working at City, and learning from the best manager in the world in Pep… Everyone knows he wants to be his own man one day.”
Duncan Castles, on the latest edition of the Transfer Window Podcast, has also reported that Everton are considering Arteta as a potential successor for Marco Silva, should the Toffees elect to move on from their current manager.
Arteta has personal ties with both clubs, having played for both Everton and Arsenal in his career. The Spaniard appeared in 209 games for the Goodison Park side, before heading to London to join Arsenal – a club at which he played for on 149 occasions across all competitions.
Having served as assistant manager of Manchester City since 2016, Mikel Arteta might be ready to take on a new challenge in his post-playing career. There has been rumours linking the former Arsenal midfielder with the managerial role at the Etihad Stadium, upon the departure of Pep Guardiola – whenever that time may come.
