Phil Foden starts for Manchester City vs Atalanta

Phil Foden starts for Manchester City this evening, in their UEFA Champions League group stage clash against Atalanta at the Etihad Stadium.

Phil Foden, who has struggled for game time this season, has earned the trust of Pep Guardiola and has been thrown straight into the starting XI against the Serie A side.

Manchester City fans have been calling for Foden to start for the blues for several months, after impressing for England U21s and making a name for himself throughout the previous campaign, with goals against Tottenham Hotspur and impressive displays in the domestic cup competitions.

So far this season, Foden has struggled for opportunities, making just five appearances since the start of the season – amounting to a total of 101 minutes.

Tonight provides the teenager with the perfect opportunity to continue his rapid rise and development under Pep Guardiola, and look to gain further experience as he looks to replace David Silva when the Spaniard departs the club at the end of the season.
