The report goes on to say the Spanish international ‘is of great interest‘ to Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain. However, any potential deal would occur next summer, which would be the same time Bayern Munich would be looking to get Leroy Sané if City are unsuccessful in their bid to get a contract extension over the line.
Manchester City were reportedly looking at Oyarzabal last summer as an option to replace Sané. It was claimed that Guardiola’s side were willing to trigger his €75 million release clause, but decided not to due to Bayern’s inability to get a deal for Sane over the line.
Reports linking Mikel Oyarzabal with a move to the Etihad Stadium have significantly gained traction over the past few days, with stories from TeamTalk and CalcioMercato in Italy suggesting officials in Manchester are reigniting their interest in the Spaniard.
The German champions have not given up all hope, though. It is believed that they will once again return for the former Schalke star. If this is the case, Manchester City will look to revisit their interest in Oyarzabal.
