Yet more stalling in the proposed Cancelo to City saga dominates the news today, although there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel regarding a deal for Angeliño, as well as a hint as to where Rodri’s future may lie. Here comes today’s transfer gossip…
JUVE PLAYING HARDBALL
That’s right, another day has passed without inroads being made by Manchester City in their efforts to sign Juventus’s Joao Cancelo. Di Marzio claim that City representatives remain insistent on Danilo being part of the deal to sign the right-back, with Sky Sports News adding that the Blue’s offer of £36 million plus the Brazilian are yet to tempt the Italian champions into selling. There is still hope that an agreement will be reached, as Calcio Mercato report that the Portuguese is unwanted by new Bianconeri boss Mauricio Sarri, who would rather Cancelo be sold to fund other moves. The overriding message seems to be: wait even longer and we’ll see what happens.
ANGELIÑO ON HIS WAY
More positive news concerning City’s attempts to sign full-backs comes from Der Telegraaf, who say that City have triggered their buy-back clause in the contract of PSV left-back Angeliño, and that the conclusion of a deal to bring him back to Manchester is “imminent”. The Spaniard left City for Holland in 2017, but after an impressive year with the Eindhoven outfit last season the Blues have chosen to activate the €12 million clause in the 22-year-old’s contract. This should be wrapped up soon!
MAJOR RODRI HINT DROPPED
News on Rodri’s seemingly imminent transfer to City has gone a little cold recently, however the Spaniard’s current club Atletico Madrid May have provided us with a clue as to the likeliness that a deal will be agreed. The Rossoneri’s latest signing, midfielder Marcos Llorente from rivals Real, was unveiled today, sporting a noteworthy shirt number of 14. The significance? The previous occupant of Atletico’s number 14 shirt was Rodri. This means that either the 22-year-old fancies a different number (the unlikely explanation), or that we will be seeing him in sky blue next season (the likely and appealing explanation).
MANCHESTER CLUBS BATTLE AGAIN
It appears that City and United share a scouting team, as they look to rival each other over yet another signing, according to the Sun. Hoffenheim teenager Ilay Elmkies is the latest subject of both club’s interest, and unlike with some previous shared targets (namely Harry Maguire) the 19-year-old could be available on the cheap, with his contract with the German side expiring in a year’s time. Come on guys, can’t we just pick different targets for once?
