Pep Guardiola certainly hasn’t forgotten about comments made by Oleksandr Zinchenko’s wife following the Champions League defeat to Lyon at the end of last season, with the TV presenter providing an insight into a conversation that happened on the Manchester City boss’ recent 50th birthday.
Speaking after the 3-1 defeat in Portugal to the French side, Vlada Sedan commented on the result on her YouTube channel stating, “Perhaps I have no right to say this, perhaps Zinchenko will forbid me. But to put it mildly, and in order not to swear, this is completely Guardiola’s fault. At such a crucial moment, making such an experimental tactic for the club is a bummer. I have no right to criticise, but why play three central defenders when the players themselves take their heads.”
However, recently as Guardiola was celebrating his 50th birthday, wishes from Oleksandr Zinchenko have highlighted that the City boss hasn’t forgotten about what was said back in August.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, as transcribed by Tribuna, Vlada Sedan said, “It was his birthday – 50 years old. Zina is always Zina. Firstly compliments, best wishes, but then there must be a fly in the ointment. Zina told him, ‘already 50, old age’. Kidding in his own style. Pep looked at him and said: ‘Alex, the most important for me is to be liked by your wife and all will be okay’…”
There definitely seems to be no bad blood between the pair after the antics of the summer, and in fact recent events would suggest that it is quite the opposite.
Zinchenko has seemingly cemented his place as Manchester City’s first-choice left-back, and has played an integral role in the club’s defensive solidity during their 16-game winning run across all competitions.
City and Zinchenko will now be gearing up to face Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night – an opportunity for the Blues to extend their lead at the top of the table to ten points.
