Manchester City are ‘closely monitoring‘ Aston Villa Academy’s Carney Chukwuemeka, and are hoping to sign the player in the near future.
Such is the potential of the player and the quality at his current level, the 17-year-old midfielder has also attracted interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United.
According to a report in The Times, Aston Villa believe that Chukwuemeka will be ‘the next big thing out of England’. The attacking midfielder was close to making his first-team debut in the club’s FA Cup fixture, but was denied the opportunity owing to Covid-19 isolation protocols.
The report further claims that Chukwuemeka turned down Manchester City’s offer in the past. He believed that there was a better chance for him to break into the first team at Villa Park. Chukwuemeka has impressed his club’s coaching staff, who see the 6ft 1in as a ‘powerhouse‘ at the No. 10 position.
Christian Purslow, CEO of Aston Villa, hailed Chukwuemeka as ‘probably the best 16-year-old player in England‘ when the teenager signed a three-year contract with the club back in October.
Apart from Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool, Chukwuemeka has also been identified as a potential target by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Juventus of Serie A. He is regularly training with the first team and hopes to make his senior debut at the Villa Park soon.
