Pep Guardiola has stated in his press conference, that despite Sergio Aguero testing negative for Covid-19, it could be a further ‘two weeks or so‘ before he returns to action for Manchester City.
The Argentine forward has struggled with fitness issues since sustaining a serious knee injury towards the back end of the previous season, which required surgery and a lengthy recovery period over the summer months.
Since his return, he has struggled to put together a consistent run of form, which has seen him come in and out of the side on a number of occasions due to muscular injuries. Two weeks ago, Aguero then tested positive for Covid-19, after a close member of his inner circle contracted the virus initially.
However, the City legend has since tested negative and fully recovered from the virus, meaning he is now eligible to return to full first-team training for the club. However, Pep Guardiola has issues caution by claiming that the striker could still be out for a further ‘two weeks or so‘ due to recovery and gaining fitness again.
Guardiola said during his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Burnley on Wednesday evening, “He’s still not training on the field. He will need two weeks or so but he tested negative and he is healthy again. It is important to have him here back.”
There is still uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of Sergio Aguero, with his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign. The latest on the situation is that Manchester City are yet to approach the Argentine over a renewal, and may be waiting to see how he recovers over the next few weeks, and how much game time he is able to partake in.
