Manchester City are not ‘hiding their interest’ in Lyon midfielder Houssem Auoar, and have received positive indications that the Ligue 1 side are ready to do business, reports Le Parisien as relayed via SportsWitness.
Auoar (22) has been linked with a move to Europe’s elite sides for some time now. The Frenchman has been with his boyhood side Lyon since 2009, making his first-team debut in 2017.
He has since gone on to make 133 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals. In the 2019-20 season, he contributed an impressive 9 goals and 7 assists.
Le Parisien say that should ‘a bid deemed satisfying’ arrive for Auoar, Lyon will not ‘hold him back’ and are ready to discuss a deal with City. A source close to Lyon stated that ‘everyone knows’ that this is the situation, in a revelation that will boost City’s prospects of landing the France Under-21 international.
If Aouar signs for City, it is likely that he would replace David Silva’s role in the side. He operates in a similar position and is noted for his playmaking and dribbling skills.
His contract expires in June 2023, and it would likely take a sum of around £50m to prise the midfielder away from Lyon.
