Manchester City have reportedly made it clear to David Silva that there is a place for him at the Etihad Stadium next season, should he find it difficult to identify a suitable destination elsewhere in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.
The Spaniard has established himself as one of the finest players in City history in his 10 years in Manchester, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups.
Now 34, Silva has made it clear that he plans to end his stay with City this summer, however with the coronavirus pandemic likely having a large impact on club’s finances, the Blues have made it clear that Silva will be offered a 12-month extension to his deal if he has nowhere else to go.
Keeping hold of the playmaker is also seen as an ‘ideal’ scenario for Manchester City. The Citizens feel that retaining Silva would ensure that they don’t need to enter the market for a new midfielder for at least another year, and that his presence would also lift some of the pressure that will fall on the shoulders of Silva’s heir apparent, Phil Foden.
