Castles says City boss Pep Guardiola is putting ‘huge pressure’ on the board to spend big in the summer.
The planned squad overhaul may well include 24-year-old Traoré, who is enjoying comfortably the best season of his career so far at Wolves. In previous spells at Barcelona, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough he’d mustered just seven career goals, but has four goals and seven assists in the league this season.
However, the winger isn’t expected to come cheap – as the club’s most valuable asset, it’s unlikely that Wolves would be willing to sell Adama for a small fee.
Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the player – which could mean that City, who don’t usually like going toe-to-toe with other top clubs in transfer races, look for alternative targets.
