Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are looking to bring in two centre-backs this summer, according to the Times.
Paul Hirst claims that Villarreal’s Pau Torres, Brighton’s Lewis Dunk and Rúben Dias of Benfica have been scouted by Pep Guardiola’s side as he looks to reinforce a seriously depleted area of his side.
Current key defender Ayermic Laporte has missed most of the season through injury, while Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho are approaching the end of their careers. John Stones has also been in and out of favour with Guardiola, and his place in the side is now seriously under threat.
This situation has necessitated City’s reported decision to sign not one, but two central defenders in the upcoming window. Milan Skriniar and Kalidou Koulibaly are among the names which have been linked to the club, and now we have three new players identified as potential targets.
Torres (23), was an important starter for second-division side Malaga last season. Dunk has been one of Brighton’s key players since their promotion in 201; but the Englishman is now 28. And Rubén Dias is in his third season as a regular starter for Benfica, at just 22 years old.
