As we enter the final stretch of the January transfer window, things aren’t exactly hotting up for Manchester City – or their fans. Nonetheless, there’s plenty to discuss in today’s rumour roundup – namely, links to some young French stars…
City target Camavinga
We’ll start with 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga. City have reportedly enquired about the French talent to his club Rennes – but they’re not the only potential suitors for the player. Camavinga seems to have also attracted the interest of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. The teenager is rated highly in France and could be set to move clubs this summer.
Scouts eye Auxerre defender
Another young Frenchman who could be on Manchester City’s radar is Jean Marcelin of AJ Auxerre. The defender is also admired by AS Monaco, according to reports.
It seems that the Citizens have sent a scout to watch the player in action, but at just under 20 years of age, they may have to move quickly to get their man before someone else snaps him up. Marcelin has been a regular in the French second division this season, starting most games despite his youth.
Sunderland rule out interest
Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson has ruled out any interest in Manchester City midfielder Matthew Smith, who has been out on loan at QPR this season.
We have previously covered stories suggested the youngster would be recalled from his spell at Loftus Road, and sent straight back out on loan in search of more regular first-team football.
Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are ‘reluctant’ to pay the £50 million price tag for Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell, according to a report from the Metro.
Previous stories have claimed that the Premier League champions would be willing to spend big on the in-demand full-back, following the struggles of Benjamin Mendy and the lack of serious threat for the starting berth from Oleksandr Zinchenko and Angelino.
