We’re now entering the third week of the January transfer window, and unsurprisingly, we’re yet to see any concrete links to any particular name. That being said, Monday morning brought about the return of a familiar name – Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes; who has been heavily linked with a move to cross-town rivals Manchester United.
Here is a complete round-up of how Monday unfolded in the world of Manchester City transfer news…
Complications In Leroy Switch
We begin today’s round-up with yet another update on the situation surrounding Leroy Sane, and his well-publicised proposed switch to Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.
According to German publication Kicker, as relayed by Manuel Veth on Twitter, Bayern Munich are set to prioritise a move for the 24-year-old winger over any challenge for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner – hardly a shocking revelation.
What was more of an intriguing insight into the current situation was Kicker’s claims on how Sane’s switch to LIAN Sports could affect a deal. It was suggested that the change of representatives could ‘complicate‘ a transfer, as negotiations between all parties would now have to start from ‘the beginning‘.
Reported Aguero Replacement ‘Happy’
One potential transfer that hasn’t seen much progression since it was first reported a few months ago involves in-form Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez – a player that has been mooted to be the ideal replacement for the ageing, yet firing, Sergio Aguero.
The Serie A star spoke exclusively to TyC Sports over the weekend, and it was hardly surprising to see the outlet question Martinez on his future and the prospect of moving to another European giant.
Martinez stated: “Today, I’m an Inter player and I’m happy here. The fact that they speak well of me means that I’m doing something right and the intention is to continue on this path. I’m calm, happy and at ease with Inter.”
That should put this one to bed for a little longer yet…
City Back For Bruno?!
Undoubtedly the biggest story of the day broke early on in the morning, with Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã suggested that Manchester City were back in the hunt for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
According to the report, Manchester City are prepared to launch an £86 million (€100m) offer THIS MONTH, although the Portugal international would not make the switch to the Etihad Stadium until the summer, with the Premier League champions offering Sporting the chance to retain the player’s services for a further six months through a loan deal.
We’re not having this one bit. It’s worth keeping in mind that around seven months ago, Manchester City were reported to be on the verge of signing the player. It’s also worth considering the timing of the report – right when neighbours Manchester United appeared to have stalled in negotiations.
The more likely reason for the report is that the player’s representatives, or even Sporting Lisbon themselves, are in the hunt for a more substantial financial package from Manchester United.
City Reject Poveda Offer
It wouldn’t be a transfer round-up without yet another update on the future of Manchester City youngster Ian Carlo Poveda, who has been subject to a lot of attention from Italy as well as Championship side Leeds United.
According to Italian source TuttoMercatoWeb, Torino have had an offer rejected by Manchester City for the teenager, however it is expected that will return with another offer to try and secure the player’s services.
We can see this one rolling on for a little longer yet considering the number of teams reportedly interested in the promising youngster.
