Man City ‘want to beat’ Barcelona in race for highly-rated midfielder – price set in homeland

Manchester City ‘want to beat‘ Barcelona to the signature of Spain Under-19 midfielder Ivan Morante, according to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph.

The 19-year-old has put in impressive performances with Villarreal B this season but is expected to leave after drawing the attention of bigger European clubs.

Morante is highly-rated, with some suggesting he could go on to represent Spain’s senior side, whilst also having a £6 million valuation placed on him by Villarreal.

Manchester City are rumoured to be circling as they begin to overhaul their squad, but face stiff competition from La Liga giants Barcelona, as they look to recruit Spain’s top youngsters.

Morante featured for Spain’s Under-19s against Italy this week in a 1-1 draw, but has also played for the Under-20 side on previous occasions.
