Three clubs in pursuit of City winger – Man City Transfer Round-Up: #12

It’s day thirteen of the January transfer window, and as many expected, quite literally NOTHING has happened concerning Manchester City – other than some rather weird and wonderful links with a whole range of names from the football world.

In case you were wondering what happened to Saturday’s update, well it’s fair to say it would have been absolutely pointless to have brought you an update containing a grand total of ZERO stories. Nevertheless, it’s the twelfth edition of our daily transfer round-up, with today’s selection of claims including three stories on three different youngsters.

Dilemma: Turin OR Leeds?

It’s been quite a turn of events in the situation surrounding Manchester City academy prospect Ian Carlo Poveda on Monday, with the teenager not only being linked with an imminent medical at Championship side Leeds, but also linked with TWO moves to Italy.

Let’s start with the first reports early on Monday morning, courtesy of FootyInsider247, claiming that a medical at Elland Road was set to take place in the forthcoming seven days. Pete O’Rourke suggested that a deal with in the final stages of completion with the formalities of the deal set to be completed imminently.

Straight forward, right? Wrong.

A quick turn of events, courtesy of Tuttosport in Italy, threw the Leeds move into severe doubt, with Serie A side Torino claimed to be heavily interested in the teenager’s services – next season. According to the report, as translated by Sport Witness, the youngster is wanted on a free transfer following the expiry of his Etihad contract at the end of the current campaign.

Two clubs? Straight forward, right? Wrong.

A third and final club was then thrown into the equation by Berren Cross of Leeds Live – it was suggested that Italian side Parma had held a long-standing interest in the 19-year-old. Despite two other clubs interested, the stance from Leeds-based journalist Cross is that the Championship side remain confident of striking a deal, with manager Marcelo Bielsa being a major factor in negotiations.

The Manchester Evening News closed off the days Poveda-related events by stating that it is down to the player himself as to whether he wishes to leave this month, or upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the current campaign.

One to Leeds, One from Leeds?

Staying with the West Yorkshire club, and FootyInsider247 provided another Manchester City-related story around the same time as their Poveda insight on Monday morning.

This time, it’s a potential arrival from Elland Road, with 18-year-old striking prospect Henri Kumwenda linked with a move to both the Etihad and Emirates Stadium following an apparent doubt as to whether the youngster will sign his first professional deal with the Championship side.

According to FootyInsider247, rivals Liverpool were also keeping tabs on the situation surrounding Kumwenda last week.

Kouassi on the cards

It’s been quite a while since the last ‘positive’ update on Manchester City’s pursuit of highly-rated PSG centre-back Tanguy Kouassi – over a month to be a little more precise!

However, despite suggestions that the 17-year-old was close to a move to RB Leipzig in Germany, reputable transfer and scouting source ‘Scouts In Attendance’ claim that Manchester City are still ‘very much in the running’ for the teenager.

That’s all on that front – if only all today’s stories were as straight forward…

Burnley Run The Rule

Youth seemed to be the topic of the day when it concerned Manchester City, with the final story of today concerning academy winger Henri Ogunby being assessed by Premier League club Burnley in an U23 development fixture on Monday evening.

The Lancashire club are clearly looking into the possibility of signing the 18-year-old, as the player enters the final one year and a half of his existing contract at the Etihad Stadium.
