Man City star’s future in ‘doubt’ – no contract extension offered

Manchester City and England centre-back John Stones has yet to begin talks with the club over a contract extension. With two years left on his current deal, Stones’ future is ‘in doubt’, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Englishman has failed to nail down a regular spot at the heart of Manchester City’s defence, with a mixture of injuries and bad form hampering his season. Stones has been in and out of the side, with Guardiola using Fernandinho in the role vacated by the departure of Vincent Kompany, and the injury to Aymeric Laporte.

The report also suggests that Nicolas Otamendi is likely to leave in the summer, but with the Blues almost certainly signing a centre-back, John Stones will want to hit form and show Guardiola what quality he can bring.

The 25-year-old has only made 10 starts for Manchester City this season, and talks of a fresh deal, although were expected, are yet to be discussed.
