Plans for player recruitment next summer are well underway, according to various reports this month, and a whole host of names are being linked with moves to the current Premier League champions. The midfielder is a position that has been mooted as an area under consideration for officials at the Etihad, and, on Saturday night, a new name was linked with a big-money switch to the North-West.
Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has ‘emerged‘ as a transfer target for Pep Guardiola, with the 24-year-old ‘under serious consideration‘ given his box-to-box abilities in the centre of the park. Sean Kearns of Metro claims that Guardiola was left ‘impressed‘ by Grealish in City’s 3-0 win against Villa back in October, and noted his ‘willingness to take the ball in difficult situations and his ability to break the press’.
However, rivals Manchester United are also claimed to be heavily interested in the Villa star, with the Old Trafford hierarchy set to ‘test the resolve‘ of the Premier League newcomers with a bid at the end of the current campaign.
In recent weeks, several new potential midfield options have come to light through the English press, with Tottenham’s Harry Winks and Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez just two names linked with interest from Manchester City. The Etihad side will have another opportunity to monitor Grealish on Sunday afternoon, as Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Villa Park to take on the team struggling at the foot of the table.
