Manchester City are ‘in pole position’ to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar – but Serie A giants Juventus have also ‘set their sights’ on the France Under-21 international, report Italian outlet CalcioMercato.
CalcioMercato claim that Juventus have held a long-standing interest in the numerous talents that litter the Lyon squad, with Auoar the subject of a failed €45 million bid last summer. However, the Italian media outlet adds that while Auoar’s talent ‘convinces the Bianconeri scouts’, it is Manchester City who are the current favourites to land the young Frenchman.
His price is ‘set to rise further’, with any deal likely going above the present €45 million valuation.
Auoar, 21, has already made over a hundred appearances for the Ligue 1 side. He plays predominantly as a central midfielder and is valued for his dribbling, passing and ability to retain possession.
Pep Guardiola had a chance to witness Auoar’s talents first-hand last season, with the midfielder starting in both of Lyon’s Champions League group stage showdowns with Manchester City. If CalcioMercato are to be believed, the player must have left Pep Guardiola suitably impressed.
