Crystal Palace are plotting a move for Manchester City U18 central defender Timi Sobowale, according to AllNigeriaSoccer.
The Republic of Ireland U19 international featured as a trialist for the London-based Premier League side in a 4-2 win over Reading in the FA Youth Cup last month, according to the report. Sobowale has been linked with a departure from the City Football Academy multiple times, after being granted permission to train with Blackburn Rovers for two weeks last year.
Manchester City signed the 17-year-old from Villa FC in the summer of 2018, and in an interview with the official club website, models his defensive game on former club captain Vincent Kompany. Sobowale has 19 appearances to date in the U18 Premier League.
With the rapid progression of Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Eric Garcia this season, there is a clear pathway for young central defenders to the first-team set up, however with a focus set to be placed on the recruitment of further defenders in the summer transfer window, some younger players may see this pathway clouded.
