‘Uncertainty’ clouds future of Man City defender – will ‘probably’ leave in the summer

Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi is facing an ‘uncertain future‘ at the club, claims journalist David Ornstein on the ‘Ornstein and Chapman‘ Athletic podcast.

The Athletic journalist believes that, given the ‘uncertainty‘ surrounding Nicolas Otamendi’s future, the defender will ‘probably‘ leave the Premier League side in the summer.

Otamendi signed for Manchester City under Manuel Pellegrini in 2015. After an inconsistent start, the Argentina international enjoyed an excellent campaign in 2017/18, as City amassed 100 points – earning Otamendi a spot in the PFA Team of the Year.

However, since then, he has struggled to replicate such form and an exit was even mooted last summer. In spite of Aymeric Laporte’s injury, Otamendi has failed to establish himself as a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side.

It is well documented that Manchester City are in the market for a new central defender, which would likely make Nicolas Otamendi surplus to requirements.
