Man City identify FIVE centre-back targets – FOUR specific players revealed

Manchester City have identified five possible centre-backs to strengthen the area where Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled so far this season, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Amongst the five names are the previously mentioned Nathan Aké and Caglar Soyuncu, who seem to have caught Manchester City’s interest with their performances in the Premier League this season.

The other three include Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar, who recently signed new contract until 2023, meaning City would have to break their £62.8 million record transfer fee. Ukrainian defender Mykola Matviyenko is also on City’s list, with Guardiola getting a first hand look at the defender when City played Shakhtar Donesk in the Champions League earlier this season.

The other option is unknown, but the desire for City to find a left sided centre-back is there. The report suggests the City are NOT expected to be one of the busier clubs in this January window. But, if they opted to recruit a defender, the names previously mentioned are high on their list.

With the departure of club captain Vincent Kompany to Anderlecht, City have been rumoured to be looking at various options to fill the hole left behind. Although, the reports do suggest this business would be done in the summer rather than this month.
