England international high on list to succeed Fernandinho – Man United also interested

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is claimed to be high on Manchester City’s list to replace the now 35-year-old Fernandinho, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The Englishman has fallen out of favour at Spurs ever since Jose Mourinho became manager, and the talk is he could now be looking for a move. Manchester United are the other side interested in bringing the 23-year-old to the club, with Solskjaer looking to rebuild his faltering side.

The difference between the two Manchester clubs however is that United would want the midfielder in this January transfer window. City on the other hand maintain that they will do the ‘bulk’ of their recruitment and restructuring AFTER the current campaign, and central midfield is one of the positions set to be addressed.

With Fernandinho deep into his final contracted year at Manchester City, and David Silva set to leave the club at the end of the campaign, the club will definitely be in the market for a central midfielder.
