“He gets better every game” – Player Ratings: Manchester City 4-1 Port Vale (FA Cup)

Manchester City advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup tonight following a convincing win over League Two’s Port Vale. Goals from Oleksandr Zinchenko, Sergio Aguero, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, and Phil Foden secured the victory for the Blues, however, it wasn’t without a scare as Tom Pope equalised for the visitors with 20 minutes gone.

Here’s how we rated the players following tonight’s win…

Claudio Bravo – 6

Looked relatively shaky on the ball but couldn’t do too much about the goal.

João Cancelo – 7.5

Looked fantastic going forward at times and had an impressive effort blocked after cutting inside the right.

John Stones – 8

Had a very quiet night and bar the goal at the expense of Harwood-Bellis, he took full command over Tom Pope and consistently kept the striker quiet.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis – 7

The youngster was impressive for large parts of the night and did score, albeit, fortunately. He was sound for most of the game but did poorly for the Port Vale goal. Still, good work from the 17-year-old.

Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7.5

Scored a decent goal with the help of a deflection. He worked the ball well around the left-hand side and was relatively sound defensively.

Ilkay Gundogan – 7

Moved the ball around well but looked a little slow at times.

Bernardo Silva – 8

Looked like the Bernardo Silva of last season, impressing often with his dribbling and ability to get in behind the defence. Perhaps a game against lesser opposition like this was important in getting some confidence back.

Phil Foden – 8.5 (MOTM)

Foden was our most impressive player tonight and was full of energy for the entire 90 minutes. He made several very good runs and saw a lot of the ball. He gets better every game by the looks of it.

David Silva – 7

The Spaniard looked very impressive at times and seemed dangerous on the ball. He really, really should have scored from a few yards out in the first half, however.

Angeliño – 7.5

Made plenty of dangerous runs down the left-hand side and looked threatening when he began to penetrate the box. He did, however, allow the cross that lead to Vale’s goal to get past him.

Sergio Aguero – 7.5

He did well to meet the ball at the back post to score but was relatively quiet for large parts of the game. Another highlight was his impressive cross towards the back post that almost lead to a goal

Substitutes:

Riyad Mahrez – 7

Was unlucky not to score when he was denied by a good save from Scott Brown.

Tommy Doyle – 7

Looked quite good on the ball, but didn’t have too great an impact.
