Manchester City have been ‘monitoring‘ Todd Cantwell’s progress for a ‘number of years‘, reports the Mail – and the club have now been joined in the battle to sign the Norwich City star by local rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Cantwell, 21, has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Premier League for newly-promoted Norwich City. The midfielder, who operates predominantly on the left-hand side, has recorded six goals and two assists in his 21 appearances so far this campaign.
Norwich remain rooted to the bottom of the table, but Cantwell’s impressive start to life in the top-flight has attracted the attention of Manchester United and Spurs. Manchester City, meanwhile, are said to have been admirers prior to this season. Pep Guardiola witnessed first-hand Cantwell’s talent, as the midfielder played a starring role in Norwich’s 3-2 defeat of the Premier League champions back in September.
With all three clubs said to be ‘keeping tabs‘ on the midfielder’s future, a potential battle for his signature could be on the cards. Cantwell is under contract until 2022 but Norwich will almost certainly be compelled to sell their academy graduate in the summer, should interest from the likes of City and Spurs become concrete.
