“If a player wants to leave, he will leave” – Man City Transfer Round-Up: #1

It’s that time of the year again Blues – the transfer window is upon us! But despite calls from many Manchester City fans to make additions this month, we could be in for a very quiet 30 days!

As promised, City Xtra will be providing a daily round-up of transfer gossip every single day throughout the window, with live updates available on our social media channels – @City_Xtra!

“It’s Simple”

There has been plenty of talk recently surrounding the future of Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, with the Portuguese defender being linked with several moves away from the club this month, including a switch to Bayern Munich or a return to La Liga side Valencia.

Speaking prior to Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Everton on New Year’s Day, Pep Guardiola opened up on the apparent ‘situation’, suggesting that that player’s immediate future only lies at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola said: “In the last month we’ve had the best – Kyle [Walker]. I give continuity to him. Joao is adapting and has a special quality – he can help us in many games. The rumours are rumours, they are what they are.

Until the agents call or we call, I don’t take any interest about that. This player we bought him for many years, not for six months, but what happens happens. I don’t know what will happen in a few weeks and in the summer we will discuss.”

If a player wants to leave, it’s simple, the agent has to call to the club, arrive at an agreement, and he will leave. And if he doesn’t get an agreement he will stay here.”

City Alerted to Chelsea Striker Situation

Manchester City are reportedly showing an interest in Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, following ‘difficulties‘ between the player and club in their ongoing contract negotiations, according to Le10Sport.

The 22-year-old is believed to be demanding around £180,000-a-week to remain at Stamford Bridge, despite his current deal running until the end of the 2021/22 campaign. Officials at Manchester City have ‘expressed their interest‘ and could ‘open discussions in the coming months‘.

You’re right, this is ridiculous, and to think it’s only January 1st.

City Winger Set For Championship Switch

Manchester City forward Patrick Roberts is set to complete a loan switch to Championship side Middlesbrough within the next 48 hours, according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph.

The former Fulham winger signed for the Blues in 2015, and despite a successful stint in the SPL with Celtic, has since seen his progress stagnate following some relatively disastrous spells at Girona, and now Premier League side Norwich City.

City officials want to see the winger gain much more game time in the second-half of the campaign, hence his withdrawal from Carrow Road and the move to the Riverside for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
