Manchester City are putting plans together to bring in at least FIVE new players during the next summer transfer window, but not without the possible departure of major names at the club, according to Sam Lee of the Athletic.
There has been plenty of talk in recent weeks of a major squad overhaul in the summer, with several of Manchester City’s first-team stars ageing and coming towards the end of their current deals at the Etihad Stadium. Club legend David Silva has already confirmed his departure at the end of the campaign, with Fernandinho expected to follow suit.
According to Sam Lee, Manchester City will look to bring in ‘at least five new players‘ in the summer transfer window. However, while the ‘core‘ of the existing squad will be kept together, the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Benjamin Mendy are ‘at risk‘.
Benjamin Mendy has struggled to put together a consistent run of form since making the £52 million move from AS Monaco in 2017, while Gabriel Jesus is continuing to battle for a permanent starting role with Sergio Aguero still going strong at the club.
It remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola has simply lost patience with the two players, and in the case of Mendy, whether he puts further trust in the back-up options pushing the Frenchman on.
In recent days, Manchester City have been linked with a whole host of new names, from Nathan Aké of Bournemouth to Isco of Real Madrid. There has been very little in the form of concrete interest or negotiations taking place, so you can expect the rumour mill to continue between now and July.
