Man City receive fitness boost as defender trains with rest of the squad ahead of Wolves clash

Manchester City defender John Stones has trained with the rest of the first-team squad ahead of the Friday night clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The England international has been ruled out with a thigh injury since the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United earlier this month, missing the previous four fixtures which have resulted in four consecutive victories for Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, the 25-year-old looks set to be on the verge of returning to action, as photographers captured the defender in training ahead of the trip to Molineux on Friday night. Pep Guardiola had ruled the former Everton man out for this clash, and with his lack of game time, this is likely to be the case. But with fixtures coming thick and fast for the Blues, this will certainly be a welcome boost as the squad enter a period of three games in just six days.

David Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane are also ruled out of the Wolverhampton clash, with the latter pair not expected back until around February 2020. Silva could return to action for the trip to Sheffield United on Sunday, however a more likely return would be the New Year’s Day clash with Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
