Christmas Day brought about some very welcome, albeit unsurprising, news in the Joao Cancelo ‘transfer saga‘ – a saga that some regard as ridiculous, despite reasons for the rumours having some element of validity to them.
In recent days, news of a potential race for Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo have come to light, with Bayern Munich and La Liga side Valencia named as the potential suitors. Both clubs were willing to explore the possibility of signing the Portuguese international in the upcoming January transfer window, with AS even suggesting that Cancelo is considered a ‘priority‘ target by the latter.
A report by Sky in Germany, as relayed by Sport Witness, has explored the apparent ‘interest’ from Bayern Munich – claiming that there have been ‘no concrete negotiations’ between the Bundesliga champions and the champions of England. In addition, the Bavarian side have not made any contact with Joao Cancelo directly.
It is claimed that there is a ‘possibility‘ of a transfer coming to fruition for the Portuguese international in January, however there is ‘no hot trail to Germany‘ as of Christmas Day.
The 25-year-old has made 15 appearances for Manchester City this season, scoring his first goal for the club against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup. In comparison to his main rival for the right-back position, he has made five less appearances than Kyle Walker, who has provided the same goal count but registered three more assists than his Portuguese rival.
