According to Football Insider, Manchester City have joined the hunt for Atletico Bilbao and Spain centre-back Unai Nuñez.
The Spaniard reportedly has a £26 million release clause which has tempted numerous top clubs from all over Europe. Manchester City are claimed to be one of the interested parties, alongside Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, and Premier League sides Everton and Arsenal.
Manchester City have been looking for a centre-back since the summer, when number one target Harry Maguire decided to join the red side of Manchester. Club captain Vincent Kompany left the club to join RSC Anderlecht, leaving Pep Guardiola with three senior central defenders.
Injuries to Aymeric Laporte and John Stones have meant Fernandinho has had to step into the role and is performing to a good standard, but not to the level a natural centre-back arguably would. Nuñez (22) may be a temptation for Guardiola, especially with the relatively low release clause.
Nuñez also earned his first senior Spain cap in September, after impressing in the U21s European Championship – a tournament his country won. However, with limited game-time at Bilbao this season, a move to the Premier League could tempt the 22-year-old.
Manchester City will have good working relations with the Spanish club, after they acquired Aymeric Laporte back in January of 2018.
