John Stones returned to first-team training for Manchester City on Thursday, following a thigh injury in the Manchester derby that ruled him out for the fixtures that followed.
City have suffered an injury-hit season so far, seeing a number of their key players miss significant portions of the campaign through fitness problems – most notably Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte.
However, Pep Guardiola will be pleased to see John Stones returning to training this week, following the short options in that position. In recent games, Guardiola has used a pairing of Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho, with Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis filling in against Oxford United in the League Cup.
Further updates on the fitness of John Stones are expected to be provided by Guardiola in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Leicester City.
