Man City and Real Madrid contact PSG defender’s agent – talks over new deal failed

Last season’s Premier League winners Manchester City have made contact with the agent of PSG & Brazil defender Marquinhos, claims Le10 Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness.

The contract of Marquinhos (25) does not expire with PSG until 2022, but Le10 Sport assert that talks over a new deal have failed to find an agreement between club and player. It is this news that has prompted Manchester City and Real Madrid to enquire to the defender’s agent about the player’s potential availability.

The report adds, however, that Marquinhos does not at present have a strong desire to leave PSG. The former Roma defender has made a total of 237 appearances for the French champions since his arrival in 2013. His versatility has seen him deployed as a central midfielder numerous times this season.

It is this composure in possession and passing ability that would likely make Marquinhos appeal strongly to Pep Guardiola. A January transfer would appear highly unlikely for such a valuable player, but there is no reason to believe that City would not consider a summer swoop for Marquinhos.
