Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has taken part in his first training session on the football pitch, as the Germany international continues his recovery from an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament sustained in August.
Yesterday, the 23-year-old uploaded a photo to his Instagram story picturing himself with football boots on, captioned ‘first pitch session done‘ – and ahead of City’s trip to Oxford on Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola confirmed the current status of Sane’s recovery process.
While addressing the media, Guardiola stated: “It is the next step to go on to the pitch, then he will train with us and then full sessions. That would be great for us.”
Leroy Sané, as well as everyone involved with Manchester City, will be hoping he returns in time for the Champions League double-header with European giants Real Madrid. Should City still be involved in the latter stages of the cup competitions come the end of January, the return of the winger will certainly provide the squad with a significant boost.
