Manchester City have secured the signing of left-back Juan Larios from Barcelona. The report from the Daily Record states City have outbid local rivals Manchester United for the teenager’s signature, and is set to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium in January.
This story follows an early report from SPORT that City were in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Larios.
Dubbed ‘the next Jordi Alba’, Larios has been playing two years ahead of his age in the Spanish youth set-up and Barcelona are desperate to keep him at the club. Despite this, the report says he will join Manchester City once his ‘European Union freedom of movement law’ act is active upon turning 16.
Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United, were interested in bringing the Spaniard to their clubs. However, they would not match the financial package that City are offering the player.
Left-back has been a problem position for Manchester City for a long time now, with many players struggling for either form or fitness. Benjamin Mendy, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Angeliño have all been used this season and none of them have managed to nail down a starting spot.
A source close to the player in the Daily Record report has said:
“We knew Manchester City would be the easiest club for Juan to adapt to English football as they have many Spanish players and staff”
