Barcelona attentive to Pep Guardiola's 'situation' – La Liga side 'eager for second spell'

Barcelona are poised to tempt Pep Guardiola with a return to his hometown club should he choose to leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, according to Neil Fissler of the Daily Express.

It has been reported that Guardiola has a ‘break clause’ in his current contract with the Premier League champions and his former employers would be eager to have him back for a second spell at the helm.

A motivating factor could be that his wife returned to Barcelona, along with one of their three children, last summer in order to more effectively run a fashion company she owns. It is known that she was finding it ‘difficult‘ to manage the business while based in Manchester, where the entire Guardiola family has been based for the last three years.

Barcelona would also be more than happy to welcome back Guardiola given the mesmeric heights they reached during his first spell at the club. Widely considered as one of the best club sides in football history, Guardiola’s Barcelona dominated and outclassed virtually all that came before them during their four years resulting in a massive trophy haul that included two Champions League successes.

Whilst the success has continued at Barcelona since his departure, there is still a desire to see Guardiola back at the club. Current manager Ernesto Valverde has lead them to league titles, but has failed to deliver another Champions League trophy, with some fans being unhappy with his match tactics and squad selections.

However, when discussing reports that he would leave Manchester City in the summer of 2020, Pep had this to say: “No. It is not true. I spoke about that a few weeks ago, about my intentions for the club.”

Guardiola has shut down suggestions he will leave before the end of his contract repeatedly throughout the course of the campaign, with the media seemingly intent on forcing a narrative that a departure is at the forefront of his mind. Manchester City fans can probably rest easy as his answer every time has been a clear and resounding “no.”
