Alongside Guardiola’s confidence in Oyarzabal’s talent, the transfer fee for the Spain international is not considered to be on obstacle. The €75m fee is deemed to be ‘nothing’ to the club’s prodigious finances, say El Confidencial. Oyarzabal (22) has been the name most strongly linked as the replacement for the likelihood of Leroy Sane’s departure for Bayern Munich. The reports in the Spanish media today confirm that this remains the case.
With Sané yet to return from his cruciate ligament injury sustained in the City’s Community Shield success against Liverpool, any deal is almost certain to take place in the summer. Oyarzabal has continued his impressive progress this season, and scored his second goal for his country last month in a 5-0 rout of Romania.
For Real Sociedad this season, Oyarzabal has achieved six goals and four assists in eighteen appearances. Like Sané, he operates predominantly on the left-hand side but his strong finishing skills have seen him appear a handful of times as a centre forward.
Should Sane leave Manchester City in the summer, El Confidencial’s report reinforces the claim that Oyarzabal will at least be on the list of targets to replace the German winger.
