Manchester City are ‘close‘ to the signing of Barcelona U17 left-back Juan Larios (15), according to an exclusive report from SPORT.
It is understood that the Premier League champions are in ‘advanced negotiations‘ for the teenage defender, who is highly-rated at La Masia. Larios currently plays in a more advanced age group, starring for the Catalan side’s U17 squad.
According to the report, Barcelona had made significant offers to the 15-year-old, to ensure his long-term future remained with the La Liga side. Furthermore, it is stated that the club were prepared to pay Larios a salary that would have made him the third highest paid academy player behind Illaix Moriba and Ansu Fati.
The defender turns 16 on January 12th 2020, at which point he will be free to sign his first professional contract, and subsequently join the academy set up at Manchester City. SPORT have suggested that the player and family have already made their mind up in regards to the player’s future, and have decided to hold contract talks.
Juan Larios is set to follow in the footsteps of Eric Garcia and Adriàn Bernabé – two players who also made the switch from La Masia, and have since become very highly-rated under the management and coaching of Pep Guardiola.
