Man City coach ‘desperate’ to land Arsenal job – currently seeking assurances from club

According to The Sun, current Manchester City number two, Mikel Arteta, is ‘desperate’ to land the currently vacant Arsenal manager’s role. However, the Spaniard is seeking assurances from North London before making the switch, in order prevent upsetting City.

Since Unai Emery left his post as Arsenal manager, Arteta has been continuously linked with the role after he almost moved to the Emirates in 2018. The Spaniard looked certain to be making the switch, before the Arsenal board opted for the more experienced Emery.

The report in The Sun details that Arteta wants assurances over the long-term project at Arsenal, before he even talks to them. A source close to the Etihad club stated in this report:

“He will then speak to the club. Nothing is going to happen before the end of this week from what we can tell. Mikel is conflicted because of his relationship with Pep and feeling for City after the years there.

He has been excellent since he got here and there is a feeling he is going to be a top manager one day.”

The stance from Manchester City remains the same and they still want Mikel Arteta to stay at the club till at least the end of the current season, however will not stand in the way of any of his desires to manage.
